Pension or Bar Idem
Idem, which in Spanish means “ditto” has been a favorite of tourists for many years, perhaps the first place in San Jose where you could enjoy a drink and entertain girls onsite at Hourly Rooms Upstairs.
The bar is quite nice although a bit pricey by local standards at an average of $4 a drink.
When Idem first opened in the late 1990’s it wasn’t uncommon to find girls who would pop in after their day job to earn a bit of cash.
The price for onsite full service increased in 2007 to about $70, and although the quality of chicas is better than average you should spend some time in the bar chatting up your potential selection.
If you are not feeling that social or want a quickie at a cut rate price, then just walk accross the street to Pension Relax or Eros where the rate is less than $40 for thirty minutes of full service.
One warning, do not take a taxi to Idem. You will get stiffed for at least $20 in taxi commission, perhaps more tacked onto your session.
Consult the Soledad Map because it’s very easy to reach on foot, otherwise have a taxi take to the Don Wong restaurant across the street, order a drink in their bar, and then when the taxi is gone walk over to Idem.

women are sexy as hell... but i can get the same ones at del rey for less than $70 an hour... but, damn the women are fine here, i must admit, you got some pocket change and want to splurge a lil, a definite stop. one thing, the owner can get in the way, you are better to negotiate what you want with them, felt like a pimp/ho situation there, unlike any other places in San Jose. fine females!!!
This place is very expensive, the women is not the best, and is very the worst if you use credit card. Is better go to the Hotel del Rey is better more woman and if yu negociate is better the price is under $ 50.00. Best regards
No taxi fee when I went.
Everyone is right when they say Idem is very expensive, it is. Also, the drinks are a total rip off, yesterday, I paid 2200 colones for a Coca Cola. Yet, the owner gives coffee for free. But, for the most part, the girls are the best looking in the entire city!!! Before I went in yesterday, my friend an I were across the street at Relax. There were about nine girls there who at best, were average looking. Many were hefty and most had body ;piercings or tatoo's. None of them was anything to write home about. Nest door at Eros, the situation was even worse. Only three girls who were not attractive. At Idem, there were also nine girls there. Four were far above average and three were drip dead gorgeous with magnificent figures.
Yes, it may be more, but if you want to masturbate with a woman's body, go eleswhere. I you want tow have a dynamite time, pay the extra dollars and go to Idem.
Expensive?
The exact cost is $60.00 for one REAL hour and $15.00 for a room! On average there is about 15-20 ladies each one more stunning than the one before. Average age is 23; slender, CLEAN and fit !
The environment is clean, safe, tranquil and no annoying, pushy rip off, "mechanical" posing bitches like the shoot them up del rey with death at the front door!
The manager, Roberto, is a great guy that is bi-lingual and always ready to help in our best interests.
THERE IS NO TAXI FEE. I paid $2.00 to the front door from the plaza.

I agree IDEM has been quality lately. The girls are hot, and under $100 is a deal for these chicas.
I just can't get past $4 - $5 a drink. The bar is nice looking, but come on this is downtown San Jose not California. That bar is nice, but I can sip Martinis at the Amistad for less than a beer at Idem.
What a bunch of crybabies. I'm tico and I have no problem whatsoever with the price. Aren't gringos supposed to have more money than us?

IDEM, for me has it all. I have been going there since the 90s and there are always good looking girls, rooms are clean and the service is always top notch. I've tried other places that charge less, Relax, Mansion, Vips and others and have found that the quality of the girls and the service is hit or miss. Rather pay $65 or 31,000 and go for the sure thing than cruise around through 2-4 MP to find something I like.
Del Rey has some really nice lookers, but I find the attitude of most the girls there a bit off.

Idem has some nice looking Girls that's worth checking out. but price is high, I paid the girl $70 and she diden't let me come twice, so look out for that, allways negotiate before you go in, unfortunatly I learned it the hard way.. as soon as came the first time around she just wanted to take a shower and get the fuck out of the room.
The key word in all spots in Costa Rica is to negociate with the ladies.. REMEMEBER YOURE HOLDING THE CASH.. and as we all know there is a better looking tica right around the corner you just have to find her. Personally I try and find the lady that can give me a girlfriend experience and I will kick it with her my entire vacation time. Listen youre spending the money anyway, why not make a real difference in one girl's life and give her some real money. Ive even got freebies and discounts ($30) from some ladies that I know in Del Rey and thats saying something. Have dinner with them and always bring a present or two, perfume, femine products etc. Ask about their family. Some have good hearts.. BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER its just an experience and not the real McCoy.. you cant make a ho a housewife.. JUST BE NICE NO MATTER WHAT. Make them feel they were the deal breaker not you.
Interesting comment. What would you think decent pay in addition to room and meals for the companionship of a lady per day in the capacity of tour guide? Would they travel by bus with you to a resort? I can be communicated with privately if you have someone in mind. I'll be visiting over the next few weeks and would like to hear what you think.

I have to agree with you on finding one special one for you an making it an experience for her an you. I stayed at the sportsmen in june an found a really nice tica that i spent most of my time with, of course that was after i went to bar idem an checked the firecrackers in there! Yeah i paid about a ridiculus 12 bucks for a grey goose an cranberry there which i will never do again but the women are straight dimes an well worth the money($62). Bar Idem here i come again in november lol.
