Camerun is difficult to miss as it is frequently the busiest and loudest place on the block just next to an adult movie theatre. Named after a small country in central Africa to which it shares no actual thematic or cultural relationship it is likely that the owner just liked the sound of it.

The rooms are large, although sparsely appointed. However, one can hardly be so picky when the total price for the room and a half hour of sex comes to about $12. The quality of girls is hit or miss, and there is often more demand than talent, especially in the late afternoon.

Camerun is also one of the few locations in this section of town that serves beer, however there is no bar and you just have to enjoy it either in the lounge area or in the room while you entertain your girl.

The owner of Camerun also owns Hostel Marruecos, which is a good distance apart in Barrio Amon. While Camerun is more popular with the local Costa Rican crowd Marruecos is a kind of low rent haunt favored by gringos.

The location is just around the corner from a large blue building that is the office of the local newspaper rag, Diario Extra. Camerun is also the first place you come to when cruising the pensions in the Parque Central section of San Jose. La Maison II and La Gaviota are the next two on Calle 4.
