Latin America for the English Speaking Gentleman

Prostitution is Legal but Unregulated

How Can Anything This Much Fun be Legal?

Prostitution is not illegal in Latin America, and although the sex tourism can be embarrassing the fact it earns big money in countries where the average income is between $200 and $500 per month.

Unlike in Europe and some countries prostitution is not regulated, so there are many potential dangers, especially for a foreign tourist who does not understand the language or local culture.

Countries like Panama, Colombia and the Dominican Republic actively arrest or harasses street hookers with varying degrees of success.

Street Walkers in Costa Rica are frequently transvestites or undocumented immigrants, however this the norm for all kinds of prostitutes in Nicaragua. Solicitation of prostitution is never a crime in Latin America, but being on the street at night in a dodgy neighborhood can get a foreigner some undesirable police attention.

Hotel Del Rey in San Jose, Costa Rica

The vast majority of prostitutes in Latina America are independent hookers who hang out in bars, and this runs the spectrum from high end to low end.

Good examples of this practice on relatively large scales are the Hotel Del Rey in Costa Rica, and the Veneto Hotel in Panama City. Both also have casinos, and are popular with tourists and locals with disposable income.

Hookers also mix with the general public in bars and night spots in Latin America, and they are usually easy to pick out as unaccompanied females. Learning how to Negotiate with a Latina Hooker is a must.

Massage parlors that are fronts for prostitution are less common in Latin America than in large cities in the United States. Concepts like the Asian table shower or rub down with a happy ending are uncommon.

New Fantasy in San Jose, Costa Rica

Although for purposes of marketing to American tourists, places like the New Fantasy in Costa Rica operate with the appearance of a massage parlor. Golden Time in Panama City welcomes customers to sit in old fashioned barbershop chair while numbered Colombian hookers file out one at a time for presentation.

The vast majority of daytime venues in Costa Rica are just straight up whore houses while the businesses skirt laws against pimping by operating as motels.

Incall facilities in Venezuela are called studios, however there are probably more escort agencies providing outcall services than studios in Caracas.

$100 for One Hour Sex with Roleplay (English)

Internet hookers have gained popularity as well in some Latin America countries. Panama City is notorious for plane loads of Colombian hookers who upon arrival quickly acquire prepaid cell phones and place Internet ads.

A tourist in Caracas never has to leave the hotel room and can make an entire vacation out of room service and incall hookers.

Craigslist, however is generally not the best website to search for hookers in Latin America. There is a Spanish language classified web site that is far more popular for erotic services in Latin America.

Costa Rica, alternatively is a relatively poor destination to look for hookers via the Internet.

The situation frustrates American businessmen who arrive to the suburbs of Escazu on the expense account of companies located there like Intel Corporation or Boston Scientific. Often these guys end up getting stood up in their hotel rooms unless they discover better options to Craiglist in Costa Rica.

Street Prostitutes in Costa Rica

The act of promoting a prostitute or pimping is generally illegal. Also, sex with children is very much illegal, and even negotiating or offering to pay for sex with a child can come with criminal penalties. Citizens of the United States are subject to a federal law that makes it an offense to cross state lines or travel internationally for the purpose of having sex with a person who is under 18 years of age.

The problem, however is there are many teenage prostitutes in Latin America, and the legal system is not designed to deal with them. For example, presenting a fake Id to a bouncer in a club is not even a criminal offense in may countries.

The police often ignore underage prostitutes because of the hassle of having to call a social worker. The same officers will spring into action at the chance to arrest a foreigner, even when the "victim" is the same teenager they have observed provide oral sex to dozens of local taxi drivers.

Police, prosecutors and attorneys can and do collect thousands of dollars in extortion payments from pervert gringos when they caught in the legal system.

These men can expect to be left broke, jobless and worse after rotting for years in a Latin America prison only to face deportation and prosecution back in their home country.

Disease is another problem, and while most experienced sex workers will use condoms the majority of the population does not routinely practice safe sex. Latin American countries have a higher incidence of Hepatitis, and vaccinates for Hepatitis A and B are a good idea.

Customers who enjoy unprotected vaginal sex can usually expect a good percentage of prostitutes in Latin America will accommodate them if the price is right.

The fact is many foreign tourists do end up in trouble, and when it does happen very little of the truth about what really happens is published in the media. Careful planning and precaution are essential.

  1. This is false, in Costa Rica Prostitution is ILLEGAL and has jail sentences. This is just BS!

    • You are incorrect axelP, In Costa-Rica PIMPING is illegal and has jail sentences. Prostition is permitted by law. Please show me one person in Costa Rica of legal age with a proper work permit who has been arrested for prostitution. They will arrest people for pimping and they will arrest people for working as a prostitute when they are on a tourist visa (AKA Colombianas) but otherwise it is both tolerated and permitted.

  2. Several "'massage"' parlors were raided. Mostly for pimping. Includes Musas. and few others. Some also got a health fine for unsanitary conditions. You pay 12,000 colones the girl gets half! all of these places were up and running in a few days. The local police make quickie visits all the time. I suspect they are not paying as well. Prostitution is usually not allowed on the street corners and every once in awhile they( police0 will enforce this.
